Preview of Crystal Instruments EDM 8.1 Release

Crystal Instruments is currently finalizing the latest full-featured version of Engineering Data Management (EDM) 8.1 software for release. The following is a preview of the powerful new features users can expect from the EDM 8.1 release:

Vibration Visualization: Introducing 3D Model Reconstruction Via 2D Images from Cameras
Creating 3D models in the past required several hours or even days of manual work. Automating the model creation using pictures shot on an iPhone or any other cellular camera is easy, fun and extremely useful. Today’s powerful computer processors combined with GPUs handles the rest of the work required in creating the 3D models.

Test objects used for vibration testing are easily converted into 3D models and specific points where sensors are deployed can be marked.

With these simple tools, the traditional approach of viewing signals will be modernized to include visual graphics in the form of vibrating 3D models which show real-time vibrations of the objects being tested.

Introducing the CoCo-70X
The CoCo-70X is Crystal Instruments’ latest handheld vibration analyzer, featuring an improved user interface and redesigned chassis. The CoCo-70X is a four-channel vibration analyzer with an IP-67 rating, designed specifically for the machinery Predictive Maintenance (PdM) community. The CoCo-70X is the latest lightweight and ruggedized addition to the Crystal Instruments’ CoCo product line.

Spider-80SG/SGi Supports IEPE
Crystal Instruments’ general purpose acquisition device with the capability to support a wide range of sensors using precision excitation voltage in addition to strain gage support now also supports IEPE sensors.

This new capability expands the Spider-80SG/SGi system operations to all possible applications where any combination of standard or non-standard sensors are deployed (including the support for strain gages, strain gage based sensors, MEMS Sensors, DC Sensors, Potentiometers, Hall effect sensors, etc.) in addition to the IEPE sensors.

Introducing Time Data Acquisition (TDA)
An extremely user-friendly, lightweight and easy-to-use yet powerful tool for applications that just require raw time acquisition and recording is on its way.

Any need for an additional processing can subsequently be carried over by importing the recorded data into Crystal Instruments’ Post Analyzer (PA) software.

Introducing SRS and TTH Control in MIMO VCS
EDM MIMO SRS and TTH tests are added to the MIMO VCS software suite which already includes MIMO Random Control, MIMO Sine Control, MIMO Shock Control and MIMO Time Waveform Replication control types.

Multi-Resolution Spectrum Technology is Extended to MIMO FRF Testing Suite of EDM Modal
The upcoming EDM 8.1 software includes the integration of the innovative Multi-Resolution spectrum technology to compute FRFs. Close resonant frequencies in low frequencies are easily distinguished without having to use an enormous block size.

Introducing Time History in DSA
Users can dynamically record the Peak or RMS data of each channel to the PC which provides a view of the RMS/Peak for the entire duration of the test’s operation.

Configurable Error Status on Front-end LEDs
The new EDM 8.1 release allows users to customize LED indicators to display specific error messages. When used along with the powerful Black Box mode of Spider systems, any anticipated error message can be identified even without a connected PC to the monitoring Spider system.

VCS/THV Testing Supports Integration with CAN bus
VCS/THV testing is integrated with CAN bus to monitor the status of a UUT. The controller reacts instantly to an unstable or dangerous status.

Revamped Channel Status View
The Channel Status view will receive a major upgrade in the upcoming EDM 8.1 release.

Users can now easily identify error status messages for high channel count systems including “Monitor Channels Lost”, “Limit Exceeded” and “Notching”.
